The RME department at RHS aims to:

• Enable all learners to explore the world’s major religions, non-religious views and beliefs, and to consider the challenges posed by these beliefs and values

• Enable all learners to develop their own values and beliefs

• Encourage all learners to learn for sustainability

• Allow all learners to appreciate moral values such as honesty, fairness, respect and concern for others within the school community and beyond

• Help learners develop questioning skills

• Encourage learners to express personal opinions through visual and verbal and signing (Makaton), Boardmaker and Easy Switch program

Self-Evaluation:

Pupils evaluate their work at the end of every unit by completing a Self-Assessment Sheet.

Pupils also give their feedback by completing a RME Pupil Evaluation form. 

Senior Phase S4-S6


Pupils have the opportunity to study the following:

 
  1. National 1/2/3/4 World Religions (pupils’ choice)

2. National 2/3/4 Morality & Belief (Moral Issue: Capital
Punishment, Euthanasia, Abortion, Medical Ethics
(Genetic Engineering: cloning, designer babies, stem cell research) - (pupils’ choice)

3. National 3/4 Religious and Philosophical Questions:
Existence of God - ’’Suffering and Evil’’; Life After Death

4. Religion, Belief and Values Award (levels 3 to 6)

These core courses are designed to develop important critical thinking skills as well as the learners’ own responses to moral questions.
